While both of us realize the importance of such Institutions we were perplexed as to why the smaller galleries were not part of the forum or considered as part of the "Art Community". For many artists, it is the small gallery who realizes a talent and takes the initial risk of showing their work. My friend is a champion for the Arts, all Arts, and sees no line between the Arts and the Community. As our conversation continued we talked about how there were small pockets of artists who either worked together or shared space, but there was no informal, non-hierarchical group for people to get together and basically share their thoughts and "show and tell" about their work. We agreed that it would be an exciting opportunity for people to see the work of others, to talk about the work, the processes, the ideas behind the work, and to feel some freedom at a grass root level of interaction.

What are your thoughts?

Return to www.prestonschiedel.com

"just take one shot"

To me, the phrase "just take one shot" epitomizes the creative frustration an artist finds themselves in from time to time. Taken from the American photographer Sally Mann (What Remains) as she was going through a phase of questioning herself, her work, and where to go from here, she states that by just taking one shot the creative path will reappear. For some, it is the frustration that leads to the act of creating, the act that may free one from the weight of stagnation. This blog "Meanderings" will I hope be a forum for expressions and comments on the creative process, in all mediums, and show how we are all similar, while being all different.
